Life Reflections

Otis Hopkins, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 3:49 pm in the comfort of his home. Otis was born in Salters, South Carolina on December 10, 1925 to the late Thomas and Mary Hopkins. Otis was the youngest of his mother’s six children, often referred to as “his mother’s baby”. The lord blessed him with years of longevity. He would often speak of how good God was to him through his sickness and health.

Otis was united in holy matrimony to Wilhelmenia Service in the late 1940’s. From this union he was blessed with six children. Years later Otis met and married Bernice Bostic. From this union he was blessed with six children as well. Both wives have preceded him in death. He was employed by J. H. Brinkley Construction Company for over 40 years and in his spare time he loved fishing, hunting and cooking.

Mr. Hopkins was a person who was always humble, meek and kind to everyone he came in contact. He was a devoted provider and in turn he was lovingly cared for by his family especially James A. Hopkins who was more than just a son. He was a nurse, a provider, a confidant and much more. He provided his father with outstanding care in the most loving way possible. Willie and Oris Hopkins also contributed to the duty of care of their father. They all worked together to provide Otis with comfort and immaculate care in his dependent years.

Otis leaves behind eight children (two daughters and six sons) to cherish his memories: Marguerite (John) Gamble of Hempstead, NY. Mattie Giles, James Lee (Sharon) Hopkins, and Henry E. “LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED; YE BELIEVE IN GOD, BELIEVE ALSO IN ME. IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSION; IF IT WERE NOT SO, I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU. I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU. AND IF I GO AND PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU, I WILL COME AGAIN AND RECEIVE YOU UNTO MYSELF; THAT WHERE I AM, THERE YE MAY BE ALSO.”

John 14: 1-3.
