The Obituary

On Tuesday, March 18, 1947, God released an angel named Mary Lee Camp to begin her earthly journey. She was born in Shelby, North Carolina to Robert and Lor Lee Epps Camp. To enhance Heaven, God quietly called Mary Lee home on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

She received her education in the public schools of Thomasville graduating from Church Street School with the Class of 1966. On December 28, 1971, Mary was united in holy matrimony to Billy Walker. She retired from Slane Hosiery Mill on October 31, 2015 following nine years of service. Her other employment included Kayby Hosiery Mills and Thomasville Furniture Industries.

Mary received Christ at an early age and joined the Friendship Baptist Church family. However being the supportive and devoted mother she was, Mary joined Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of her son, Pastor Ronne L. Walker. Mary loved the Lord and her work here on earth was making sure everyone she came in contact with loved Him too. She devoted much of her time in study of God’s Word to correctly pass it on to her classes, sometimes falling asleep in the Word. She was a spiritual advisor for the Women’s Ministry, and as a devoted Sunday School teacher she revamped the Women’s Sunday School class. She was a tireless and committed servant, serving as a Prayer Warrior, a member of the Praise Team and the Pastor’s Aide at Greater New Hope. While at Friendship she transformed the Adult Sunday School class. Mary extended her service to others by starting the West End Prayer Band and bible study classes in the community and on her jobs.

Her family will cherish the memory of the family dinners she lovingly prepared, her faithful involvement in church worship and church activities, and her support, love and devotion to her family. She enjoyed reading, shopping, nourishing her family with home cooked meals, and was known as “Grandma Diva”. She touched the lives of countless people, adopting many spiritual sons and daughters. Mary Lee will be greatly missed by all who God allowed to cross his path.

Left to cherish fond and precious memories of her are her husband Billy Walker Sr. of the home; one daughter Dr. Tammy Simon of the home; two sons, Billy Walker, Jr., (Teresa) and Rev. Ronnie L. Walker (Regina) both of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Deamonte Burgess of High Point, Mya Walker and Cameron Walker of Thomasville; six siblings, Lucille Sweezy and Dorothy Watkins both of Waco NC, Eloise Brown (Jimmy) of High Point, Henry Camp (Jennie) of Shelby NC, Betty Ann Keitt (Lloyd) of Winston-Salem NC and Bobby Camp of Kings Mountain NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,

which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…”

2 Timothy 4: 7-8
