The Obituary

Sometimes God picks the flower that is still in full bloom; Sometimes the rosebud’s chosen that we feel He’s picked too soon. Sometimes the flower is fading with petals floating down, but God knows the perfect time to gather flowers from the ground. There is a heavenly garden in which God takes great pleasure because He’s placed within it the loved ones that we treasure. He walks among the blossoms giving them eternal rest, and I know that it must please Him because He chose my very best.

On Friday, March 18, 2016, God picked Rometa Davis a precious rosebud to add to his Heavenly Garden. She was born on November 5, 1937 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Bleez Robinson and late Gracie Davis Alston.

Rometa attending the public school system of Darlington, South Carolina and later moved to Thomasville where she was employed with Thomasville Furniture Industry for over 30 years. Rometa was a faithful member of Brown New Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the Nursing Board for over 20 years.

Family and friends affectionately knew her as “Sister”. Her love for flowers and gardening also earned her the name “Plant Lady” and her love for hats could have deemed her the title “the hat Lady”. She was an avid walker and the community will miss seeing her taking her daily walk throughout the neighborhood. Her love for cooking and being a second Mom to her niece and nephews kept her active. As a determined and persistent women, Rometa “meant what she said and said what she meant”. Early on Rometa participated with several events concerning the Civil Right Movements in Thomasville.

Left to cherish her fond memories is one sister Willie Mae (Sherman) Rodgers of Thomasville, NC, one niece, Wanda (Adonis) Blackwell of Cincinnati, Ohio, six nephews, Eric (Susan) Rodgers of Narragansett, RI, Sherman Rodgers, Stanley Rodgers, Gregory Rodgers, Rodney Rodgers and Shane (Quintsey) Rodgers all of Thomasville, NC and a host other relatives and friends.

Humbly Submitted,

The Family
