The Obituary

On Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, our father, Rodney Jerome Stephenson, Sr., while at his home at 406-B Gail Street, Thomasville NC, traded this earthy life for his new place in glory, to be alongside our heavenly Father and his earthly father Joe Louis Stephenson. He was forty-nine years young. Rodney was kindly and affectional known to his family and friends as “Chip”.

Life’s journey for Rodney began on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1966 in Thomasville, NC. He was born to Jo Ann Love Stephenson and to the late Joe Louis Stephenson. Rodney resided in Thomasville, NC all of his life, where he attended Thomasville City Schools. He graduated from Thomasville Senior High School with the Class of 1984 and married his high school sweet-heart Brenda Taylor Stephenson on June 5, 1985 and they had two beautiful children, Shakira “Kira” and Rodney Jr “Pee-Wee”. He was last employed at Rex-Rosenlew as a machine operator. In 2013 Rodney joined the church family of Living Water Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Davidson Pride Lodge No. 157.

Rodney loved basketball and was who some called a “beast” player. Rodney was one of two Thomasville Senior High players, #22, selected for the 1984 Dispatch All-County Team. The selection was made by the 16 coaches from the 8 public high schools in the county and the 4 sports writers for the Dispatch. Rodney helped lead Thomasville to a red-hot finish, including a spot in the district finals, that year. As a 5' 9'', senior guard, he led Thomasville in scoring with an average of 15 points per game. He combined quickness with the ability to hit the jumper from the outside.

He was a caring person who was ALWAYS smiling, 24/7. Rodney was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it, he would give you the shirt off his back if you didn’t have one. Rodney loved his family and enjoyed getting together with family and friends to have a good time. Rodney's hobbies include listening to all kinds of new and old school music and watching videos. He loved all types of trucks and cars especially Corvettes.

Rodney leaves to cherish his loving memories two children Shakira “Kira” Nicole Stephenson and Rodney “Pee-Wee” Jerome Stephenson, Jr. both of Thomasville NC; his mother Jo Ann Love Stephenson of Thomasville NC; two sisters Libby Justina Love Maffett (David) and Felecia Stephenson Bell (John) both of Thomasville, NC; nephews, Anatoly “Papa” Love, Terronza Stephenson and Ashadde Gaither; nieces, Sudoya Love and Keandrea Stephenson; his special companion and friend Michelle Boyd Carolina and her son Marques Farley; his life-long friends, Jeff Byrd and Thomas Watkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

“I am home in heaven All’s so happy, All’s so bright;

There is perfect joy and beauty, In this everlasting light.

~ RODNEY~
