Family Gathering:
Life and Legacy
Sometimes God picks the flower that is still in full bloom; Sometimes the rosebud chosen we feel He’s picked too soon. Sometimes the flower is fading with petals floating down, but God knows the perfect time to gather flowers from the ground. There is a heavenly garden in which God takes great pleasure because He’s placed within it the loved ones that He treasures. He walks among the blossoms giving them eternal rest, and we know that it must please Him because He chose the very best.
Gwendolyn Elaine Simon McQueen was born on October 1, 1954 to the late Leroy Simon, Sr., and Eloise Swittenberg Simon in Thomasville, North Carolina. She entered into God’s heavenly garden on May 20, 2017.
Gwen attended Lexington School System in Lexington, NC graduating with the class of 1972. She later returned to Thomasville, NC to raise her family. In 1984 she met her best friend, Robert McQueen; they united in holy matrimony on June 16, 2006. They have celebrated 32 wonderful years together.
Gwen was a simple woman; humble and unpretentious. By nature she was a loving and nourishing person. She proudly worked as a homemaker. Enjoying all the perks of cooking, shopping and decorating her home. She loved providing for her family. Her spiritual foundation made it easy for her to give advise to those who needed it.
Gwen leaves to cherish her precious memories, her best friend and husband, Robert McQueen of the home; six children: Rodney (Katrina) Simon of Atlanta, GA, Kenya (Aric) Strickland of Columbia, SC, Van (Ikeda) Simon, Wynter McQueen and Charles Threadgill all of Charlotte, NC and Narada (Daphne) Simon of Hunterville, NC; eleven grandchildren and 2 great-grand children; two brothers: Leroy Simon, Jr., and Keith Simon both of Lexington, NC and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relative and friends.
