The Obituary
Rosa Mae “Tut” Nelson Simon, departed this life on June 12, 2017. The earthly journey of Rosa began on September 4, 1939 in Rimini, South Carolina. She was married to Joe Simon Jr. whom God called home on October 1986.
Rosa accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Freeman. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Simon, one son, Clayton Nelson, one brother, King Solomon Nelson, and one sister, Lorena Johnson .
Rosa was known by many as “Tut”. She extended her motherly love not only to her children but also to all who were around her. She found peace just sitting on her front porch and she especially enjoyed spending time working in her yard whenever her health allowed. Whenever she wasn't sitting on her porch she was enjoying family and friends functions, and traveling. Her favorite pastime was cooking and watching her favorite tv shows which included: Court TV, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. Tut enjoyed listening to gospel music. The most important thing to her was spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Surviving to cherish precious memories are her three children Wilbert (Mary) Simon, Willie Simon, and Sandra Simon all of Thomasville; seven grandchildren, Rashekia Junious, of High Point, Alonzo (Danne) Wingate of Mebane, NC, Antione Simon of Greenville, NC, Torrence (Allison) Simon of Upper Marboro, MD, Dontae Simon of Charleston, SC, Brian Gobble of Lexington, NC, and Joseph Simon of the home; 10 great grand-children; two sisters -in-law, Margaret Thomas and Roberta Simon both of Philadelphia, PA; five godchildren, Pansy (Senaca) Blackmon of Sophia, NC, Rose (Stanley) Bridges of Sumter, SC, Bishop Robert (Tina) James Jr., Pinewood, SC, Curtis Henderson of Las Vegas, NV, and Andre Henderson of Boston, MS; special nieces, Ella Mae Nelson, Sylvia Johnson, and Wanda Staples; three special friends, Floyd Trowell, Mary Weeks Green, and Shirley Simon; caregivers, Gearldine White and Ann Durant along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
