Robert Eugene Oakley was born in Statesville, North Carolina on February 25, 1956. He was the son of the late Garland Herman and Hedy Bratton Oakley. After the death of his parents, Robert was reared by his maternal grandmother, the late Agnes Jones Bratton. In July 1970, Robert came to live with Annie Willie Bratton and the late Frank Bratton who opened their hearts and home and to whom he affectionately called Mama and Daddy. Robert’s life came to a quite closure on July 30, 2017.
“Oaktree”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends graduated from Thomasville Senior High School in 1977. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in 1982. He was employed by Thomasville Furniture Industries and The City of Thomasville.
Robert had a heart of gold, he never met a stranger. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed listening to music, dancing, watching videos and movies. He was an avid fan for the “Thomasville Bulldogs” and “Carolina Panthers”. He was a sharp dresser, his trademarks were his leather jackets, Cowboy hats and boots, and his favorite saying was , “ I AM A SOLDIER”!
Robert was proceeded in death by his parents, grandmother, Daddy Frank Bratton; two brothers, William Frank Oakley and Mitchell Bratton.
Robert leaves to cherish his precious memories, his mother, “Mama” Annie Willie Bratton; one daughter, Cyntrelle Buchanan; three grandchildren, Kadaria, Noah and Hezekiah; four brothers, James (Thelma) Oakley of Statesville, NC, Ronald (Teuresa) Bratton , Tyress (Kim) Bratton and Frank Bratton all of Thomasville, NC; four sisters: Priscilla (Ken) Manderson of Dallas, TX, Sonia (Barry) Scott Troutman, his twin sister, Barbara (Reginald) Gamble of Statesville, NC, and Angela Bratton of Thomasville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
