The Obituary
On Friday, April 13, 1950, God released an angel named Gwendolyn Elaine Gathings Medley to begin her earthly journey. She was born to the late Jesse and Sarah (Parsons) Gathings in Thomasville, North Carolina. To enhance heaven, God quietly called Gwen home on Friday, July 28, 2017.
After receiving her education from Thomasville City Schools and graduating with the class 1968, Gwendolyn continued her education receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant/Salesperson for WSMX radio station for several years.
Gwen will be remembered as being very outspoken and straightforward, but extremely lovable. She enjoyed traveling and shopping, one would consider her as a fashionista and social butterfly. Gwen was full of life! She was a former usher, choir member, a true team player within her church, an active member of Alive after 55. Gwen was very thoughtful and giving, and as many would testify, she reached out to give anyone a helping hand, volunteering at homeless shelters, organizing toy drives or giving words of encouragement. She is the founder of the Deliverance Ablaze family ministry. But nothing made her happier than spending time with her own family. Celebrating the company of each other, especially on Labor Day when everyone gathered. The Philadelphia Eagles was her favorite football team.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Sarah (Parsons) Gathings and three brothers: Kenneth Gathings, Wayne Gathings and Albert Gathings.
She leaves to cherish fond and precious memories to her two daughters: Teresia Medley and Y’Londa Medley-Jackson both of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren: Mahoganie Medley, Taylor Medley and Matthew Medley; five brothers: Tracy Gathings of Thomasville, NC, Timothy Gathings of Las Vagas, NV, Marvin Gathing and Jerome Gathings both of Winston-Salem, NC and her twin, Joseph Gathings of Albermarle, NC; five sisters: Victoria Gathings and Loria Gathings both of Charlotte, NC, Gloria Gathings and Belinda (Ron) Hunter both of Winston-Salem, NC and Janice Gathings of Thomasville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Humbly Submitted,
The Family
