The Journey

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, Heaven’s gate swung open, and the Master called softly, “Duke, Come Home!” he humbly exchanged his earthly wings for life eternal to sing with the angels in his new Home. Henry Craven Davidson’s journey began on April 1, 1927 in Wadesboro, NC. He was born to the late Henry and Rosa Bell Davidson. He was blessed with 90 wonderful years of life. He received his education in the Anson County school system.

“Big Duke” as he was fondly called by family and friends; moved to Thomasville in 1950. He was married to his beloved wife, Lottie Evelyn Leak Davidson for 66 wonderful years. To this union they had five loving children: Charles, Gloria, Cynthia, Harold and Darrell. Big Duke was employed by several furniture companies, Thomasville Furniture Industries being the last from which he retired after 29 years of service. His favorite pastime was fishing, hunting, gardening, and beekeeping.

As a youth, Big Duke had a zeal for singing. The lyrics “Walk in the Light” will forever be remembered as one of his favorite songs. Duke was a faithful member of Brown New Calvary Baptist Church. He sung with the male chorus, travel with the church on many revivals and community events. Big Duke was a true prayer warrior!

Big Duke is survived by three sons: Charles (Brenda) Davidson, Rev. Harold (Sue) Davidson, and Darrell (Tina) Davidson; two daughters Rev. Dr. Gloria L. (James) Thomas and Minister Cynthia L. Coleman; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild, and one faithful loving friend, Richard James and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Prayerfully Submitted, The Family
