The Obituary
On Monday, February 12, 2018, while surrounded by his family, Joseph McKiever, Jr. transitioned from his earthly life to life eternal.
Life’s earthly journey for Joseph began on September 25, 1941 in Bishopville, South Carolina where he was born to the late Joseph McIver, Sr. and Curly Mikel McIver.
Joseph was a 1954 graduate of Dudley High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. Joseph was employed with the Guilford County School System until he retired in 1998.
Joseph accepted Christ into his life at an early age. Friends referred to Joseph as “Joe” while his family usually called him “Pops.” His specialty was making people laugh, by telling a good joke. Family and friends will fondly remember Joe as having an outgoing personality. He enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and spending time with his family, especially his youngest daughter, Sam. The Carolina Tarheels was his favorite team. He was one of their biggest fans. Joe will be missed by all who God allowed to cross his path.
He leaves a legacy of love to his six children: Samatha (Lamont) Colson, Thomasville, NC, Octavia McKiever, Houston, TX, Jada Lassiter, High Point, NC, Traci (Joe) McKiever-Bradley, Liberty, NC, Kimberly McKiever, Pensacola, FL, and Joseph McKiever III, Columbus, GA; 17 grandchildren, five of which were very dear to his heart, Malik, Kyree, Diamond, Shauntara, and Shaylyn; 10 great grandchildren; four special caregivers, Tiffany Ayala, Teresa Ingram, Mary and Tiffany Cobb, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
