Obituary
Dorothy Lee Coleman was born on October 19, 1946 in Thomasville, NC to the late Thomas Coleman, Sr. and Elwillie Dawkins Coleman. She was educated in the Thomasville City Schools, graduating from Church Street School in the class of 1965. In 1969, she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Education from Winston-Salem State College, now called Winston-Salem State University.
Dorothy served as a teacher in the High Point school system for many years. She grew up attending St. John A.M.E. Zion Church along with her family. She was a private person who found pleasure in reading and in writing. She loved gospel music and enjoyed listening to her local radio station 103.1FM. As a lifelong resident of Thomasville, she also acted as a “neighborhood watch” for her Barrington Street community.
“Dot” as family and friends fondly call her, will be remembered for her good heart and her willingness to lend a helping had to anyone in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donzelle Worthy and brother, John William Coleman.
Left to cherish her memories are her brother, Thomas Coleman, Jr of Tucson, AZ; nieces, Phyllis Horne of Thomasville, NC, Terry Worthy of Inglewood, CA, Diane Worthy of Greenville, NC and Deborah Worthy of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Larry Worthy of Clarksville, TN, Kevin Worthy of Troutman, NC, Chris Coleman and Terry Coleman both of Lancaster, CA; a special caregiver, Melvin Thompson and a host of cousins, neighbors and friends.
