Life Reflections

Mary Leona Holley Douglas peacefully answered the call of her heavenly father on Friday, April 13, 2018 at her home. She was born on July 17, 1924 in Toccoa, Georgia to the late Leon Holley and Mattie Mae Webb Gilbert.

Mary was an elegant, charming and classy lady who feared the Lord. She was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church. Planted in her faith, she read her bible daily and God showed favor upon her as a “Woman of Excellence”. Throughout the years, Mary happily served in many positions within the church such as United Methodist Women, Trustee and Treasury, but none as proudly as “Mother of the Church”. As a women before her time, Mary also served within the community. Her positions were a judge for Election Board, a honorary member of the City of Thomasville Cemetery Committee and a member of the Order of Calanthe Courts Star Bethel Court #582. As a “Women of the Know”, Mary’s professional career earned her a position as an inspector for Thomasville Furniture Industries, where she retired after 28 years of service.

A “fashionista” before the word was created, Mary always looked fabulous in any outfit or hat she wore. Her passion was working in her yard, tending to her flower beds and cooking her famous, chicken pie, pound cakes and her sweet tea. Family and friends will always remember Mary as a road runner when she went out driving on Sundays to visit family and friends.

Heaven gates awaits Mary as she joined her parents, husband and son.

Leaving to cherish her fond memories include, her daughter, Deborah Johnson of the home; her son, Theodore (Katie) Douglas of Charlotte, NC; a step-son, Albert Skeen of High Point, NC; three grandsons, Rodney (Angela) Whiteside, Ron Caldwell and Elder Marcus Flake; two granddaughters, Tonya Gilliam and Shawn Henderson; five great grandchildren, Cameron, Courtney, Keaton, Mirakle and Nick and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, church members and friends.
