On Tuesday, June 11, 2018, while surrounded by her family, Sylvia Ann Mock Goree transitioned from her earthly life to life eternal. Life’s earthly journey for Sylvia began on June 18, 1941 in Thomasville, North Carolina where she was born to the late Enita C. Williams.
In 1960, Sylvia married the love of her life, Floyd Goree and from this union of 57 years, three children were born: Sheryl, Dennis and Rita Goree.
Planted in her faith Sylvia joined St. John A.M.E. Zion Church. Sylvia was an active member of the Missionary Board and the Pastor’s Aide until her health declined.
Anyone who knew Sylvia would tell you that she had a very loving spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter. Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her family. She also loved cooking, especially for her family members. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday because it combined two of her favorite pastimes - family and cooking. When Sylvia wasn't in the kitchen cooking, she would collect recipes, sew or watch the Dallas Cowboys and the Duke Blue Devils.
Though her physical presence is no longer with us, we are yet strengthened by her spiritual presence. Left to cherish her memories include her husband, Floyd Goree of the home; two daughters, Sheryl Goree of Hagerstown, Maryland, Desiree “Rita” Goree of Thomasville, North Carolina; one son, Dennis Goree, Sr. (Tangee) of High Point, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Davon, Dennis Jr., Dakeiva, Carmella and Caleb; six great-grandchildren; one bother, Keith (Priscilla) Williams of Stone Mountain, Georgia; one sister, Brenda Green of Thomasville, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again.
