Life ‘s Journey

On August 12, 1935, God released an angel named Elizabeth Lillie Humphries to begin her earthly journey. She was born to the late William Humphries and Carrie Smith Humphries in Thomasville, North Carolina. Elizabeth was called to gain her Heavenly reward on Monday, July 30, 2018.

“Lizzie” as she was affectionately known to family and friends graduated at the age of 17, from Church Street School, Class of 1952 in Thomasville, NC. Elizabeth retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries – Plant C with over 30 years of service.

Planted in her faith, Lizzie was a life long member of Union Baptist Church, where she served as president for the Senior Usher Board and was a “Mother” of the church. She was taught and practiced, John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you”. Family and friends will attest that she loved people.

Lizzie was an outstanding mother, grandmother, cousin, auntie and friend. She was very outgoing, loved to talk and would express her opinions. She enjoyed listening to Bobby Jones’ gospel music, sewing and cooking- especially chicken pot pie and banana pudding. Most of all, she loved shopping- displaying her love for fashionable hats.

Lizzie was proceeded in death by her parents and three siblings, Annie Henry Liles, James Humphries and Johnnie Humphries.

Lizzie leaves to cherish fond and precious memories to her children, Mitchell Humphries, of High Point, NC, Jimmy Lee (Elizabeth) Wilder, Sr. and Nikita Abrams both of Columbia, SC, and Edwin Wilder of Thomasville, NC; four grandchildren, Pasha Abrams, Belinda Wilder Cheatham, Celia Abrams and Jimmy Wilder, Jr.; six great grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Lee (Katherine) Humphries of Thomasville, NC; a godson, Willie Hopkins and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
