Life Reflections

On Sunday, early in the morning of August 12, 2018, Johnnie Mae Johnson peacefully made her transition into life everlasting and Christian victory was declared. Our beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend was born on October 19, 1940 to Gladys Mock Walker and the late John Vance Harris in Thomasville, North Carolina.

She was a graduate of Church Street School in Thomasville, NC. In 1964, she joined the workforce for 53 years. Forty of those years were at Thomasville Furniture Industries—Plant D. She began as a finisher and her dedication and willingness to complete any task earned her an assistant supervisor position. In 2004, she was employed by the Thomasville City Primary School as a child nutritionist for 13 additional years. Johnnie Mae enjoyed the small things in life—cooking, traveling, completing “ Big Bible” word search, playing Candy Crush and occasionally casino. She was also a member of Star Bethel Court of Calanthe #582.

Johnnie Mae was a lifetime member of St. John A. M. E. Zion Church. She faithfully supported the missions and ministries of her church. She was president of the Stewardess Board, treasurer of the Scholarship Committee, member of the kitchen committee, usher board and the Inspirational choir. Johnnie Mae’s motto was, “if no one wants to do it, I will”.

In addition to her father, her husband, Jodie Johnson; grandson, Erick Harris, two brothers and grandmother, Beulah Massey proceeded her in death.

Surviving relatives whose lives were enriched and touched by her life in a special way includes her children: Kevin Johnson, David Harris, Craig Harris and J. Lynn (James) Beasley all of Thomasville, NC, Melanie (Julian Swittenberg II) Harris Countee of Wadesboro, NC and Tammi Johnson of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, three of whom were very special to her, Tyangye (Jonathan) Smith, LaKia Beasley and Tavion Johnson; eight great-grandchildren and a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
