Her Journey
Life’s journey for Garnett Dora Hargrave began on June 4, 1930 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was born to the late Jack and Tullie Mae Cotton. Life’s journey for Garnett came to a quiet and peaceful close on August 15, 2018.
Mother Garnett received her former education from the Orange County School system. As a young lady she moved to Lexington NC; where she worked and retired from the Lexington City School system in Lexington, NC as a cafeteria cook. Children naturally gravitate to her kind spirit. This allowed her to extend her love to a lot of people. She was known as “mother of the neighborhood”; babysitting for anyone who asked. Her hobbies were working in her floral garden and fishing.
In addition to her parents, Garnett was preceded in death by one son, Billy Cotton and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors are her children, Clarence Cotton of Raleigh, NC, Parkasky (Faye) Cotton of Greensboro, NC and Laura Hargrave of Thomasville, NC; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie Cotton and Clarence Cotton; a sister, Odessa Hayes; a daughter-in-law, Pam Cotton of Lexington, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
