On May 26, 1939, Ira Jefferies was born to the late Perry and Freelove Jefferies in Gaffney, South Carolina. On August 15, 2018, the gates of Heaven opened for Ira to enter in.
Ira was a graduate from Church Street School in Thomasville, North Carolina. Understanding the importance of having a strong spiritual foundation, Ira joined First Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a former Chairman of the Deacon Board and Finance Committee.
Ira retired from Thomasville Furniture Industry – Plant B as a finisher supervisor after 46 years of services. Family and friends will remember him as a giving person; delivering Meals on Wheels and always willing to help others. During his pastime, he enjoyed watching Westerns, the Carolina Panthers, the Golden State Warriors and Tiger Woods playing golf.
Heaven gates awaits Ira as he joins his parents; four sisters, twin-sister, Ida Jefferies, Carrie Byrd, Annie Ellis and Almentha Jeffries; two brothers, Elmer Jeffries, Sr. and Jones Jeffries.
Leaving to cherish his fond memories includes his wife, Catherine Jefferies of 27 years; two sons, Jimmy Rice of Thomasville, NC and William Furr of Greensboro, NC; two daughters, Barbara Dixon of Greensboro, NC, and Sharon Wilson of Thomasville, NC; seven grandchildren, Javan Rice, Joy Dixon, Jordan Dixon, Lisa Furr, Infinite Billy, Tygra Lee and Christopher Hines; two sisters, Wilman Lindsey of Gaffney, SC and Elizabeth Jefferies of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter-in-law Gail Rice; sister-in-law, Jeanette Witherspoon; brother-in-law, Gearld Singleton; beloved nieces and nephews; a host of cousins, other relatives, friends and best friend, Kenny Smith.
