Obituary

Mr. Wilbert Bernard McCauley, fondly known as “Bernard,” made his transition from this earthly pilgrimage on Friday, August 17, 2018. He was born on October 12, 1941, the youngest child to Robert Lee and Macie Strickland McCauley, both of whom preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Doris McCauley Robinson, Ruth McCauley Thomas and Dr. Betty Jo McCauley Pelham; three brothers, Tommy McCauley, Benjamin McCauley and James McCauley.

Bernard was educated in the public schools of Thomasville and was a graduate of Church Street School, Class of 1960. He was employed with Thomasville Furniture Industries, Plant A for 36 years as a machine operator.

Bernard was the “Toast of the Town” with his family. Here are just a few attributes that described him: straight forward, stern but fair, a loving disciplinarian, good provider, very supportive to his family and friends, a community-oriented father and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid Thomasville Bulldogs fan. He loved to go to the driving range and play golf and enjoyed making the family “Barbecue Sauce.” When you passed by his home, you would see him on the porch waving to all.

He served as an adult basketball coach for the Thomasville Parks and Recreation Department, received his certification in fire science and was a Davidson County Volunteer Fireman. Fraternally, he was a member of Davidson Pride Masonic Lodge #157 PHA.

On March 27, 1965, he united in marriage to the former Mary Edna Pegues, and to this union three children were born: Anthony, Lisa and Lamont.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 53 years, Mary McCauley of the home; a daughter, Lisa McCauley; two sons, Anthony (Corda) McCauley and Lamont (Kimberly) McCauley; eight grandchildren, Tamarria McCauley, Marissa McCauley, Erik McCauley, Nevath McCauley, Sherod Davis, Terrence Davis, Kenya Young and Deandre Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Aamir Davis, Aamira Davis, Seth Davis and Samia Davis; a brother, Edward McCauley; a sister-in-law, Annie Ruth McCauley; his granddog, “Obey” McCauley; nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, many relatives and friends.
