Her Journey
We pause today to pay a richly deserved tribute to the memory of the devoted, highly esteemed, fearless and fallen solider Mother Margaret Cochrane Evans. The character of the life she lived can be summed up in these words: she was sincere, earnest, loyal, self-sacrificing and a woman of prayer.
On Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Curis Nursing Home, Mother Margaret Cochrane Evans’ earthly life ended and her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, suffering and sorrow in to the presence of the Lord.
Mother Margaret Cochrane Evans was born on August 23, 1916 to the late Doc Cochrane and the late Anna Margaret Abraham Cochrane, Clarendon County, South Carolina.
At the age of six, her family moved to Thomasville, North Carolina. She received her formal education in the public schools of Davidson County Church Street School.
In 1932, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. Her testimony was that she was saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost and fire. She joined Zion Tabernacle Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the Americas, under the pastorate of the late Reverend W. T. Bowens.
In 1938 she was united in holy matrimony to the late Willis Evans. To this union five children were born, Josephine, Mary, Joel, Michael, and Margaret Ree. Mother Evans was employed at the Liberty Nursing Home for 17 years. Also she worked as a private duty nurse for many years.
During her eighty-six years of faithful and loyal services, she served as a member of the Mothers Board, Finance Board, Vice President of the Missionary Board, Sunday school teacher, Holiness Young People’s Union worker, sang on the Spiritual Choir, a member of the Usher Board and leader of the Noon Day Prayer warriors. In the community, she was a member of the East End Prayer Band.
Some of her favorite songs were: “Shine on Me,” ” Let Him Come In,” “Over Yonder where Jesus Is, ” “I’m Moving on Up Zion Hill” and “Until I Reach My Home.”
Mother Evans was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willis Evans; three daughters, Josephine Evans, Mary Jackson and Margaret Ree Walker; six brothers, Jim, Albert, Ned, Jeff, Freddie, and William Cochrane,; three sisters, Ella Bing, Carrie Richardson, and Jessie Cochrane.
She leaves to cherish fond and precious memories two sons, Joel Cochrane of Boston, MA, and Michael (Melinda) Evans of Thomasville, NC, a special grandson, Dexter Evans of Charlotte, NC; a special niece Arnetha Cochrane of Milwaukee, WI and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
