Obituary
On December 23, 1942, Shirley Ann Cannon was born to the late George McCant and Janie Cannon in Newberry, South Carolina. On her 76 birthday, December 23, 2018, she transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly life.
During her childhood her entire family relocated to Thomasville, North Carolina. She attended and graduated from Church Street School with the Class of 1961. Shirley worked and retired for Kayby Mills with over 20 years of service.
Although Shirley did not have any children she cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She was very family oriented and enjoyed her annual Fourth of July celebration.
Shirley was an active member of Brown New Calvary Baptist Church until her health declined. She severed on the nursing aide board. She was always willing to assist any member in need. Her other activities were cooking, reading, doing puzzles, playing BINGO, and watching western movies and soap operas. Many people will remember Shirley as having an outgoing and sassy personality. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Rosa Sanders, Mary Kindard, Roberta Taylor, Norma Miller, Pearl Lee Lawson, Elizabeth Jennings, Jake Rickard, and Henry Cannon.
Leaving to cherish her memories is her brother, William Cannon of Baltimore, MD, several nieces and nephews, one godson, Dishon Harris of Thomasville, NC, a lifelong partner, Andrew Reid of Thomasville, NC, a special friend, Emma Caraway of Thomasville, NC, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again. Prayerfully Submitted, The Family
