MARY DELOISE PENNY was born on February 18, 1954 in Chatham County, NC to the late to the late Dave Burnett Penny and Marie Perry Penny. She departed this life  on Monday, April 8, 2019, at UNC Healthcare, Chapel Hill, NC after an extended illness.

She attended the Chatham County school system in  Pittsboro, NC.  Mary was a hard worker,  her former employers included: the University of North Carolina, Marriott, Chapel Hill  and Carrboro Laundromat.  She was also a Nanny for the Roundtrees. Mary was a dedicated member of Hamlet Chapel CME Church where she served as a Missionary, Usher and sang on the Combined Choir until her health declined.

Mary was full of life.  She enjoyed dancing, telling silly jokes, and spending time with her family; especially her nephews challenging them to a game of spades.  Her favorite pastime was cooking for her family, friends, and the neighborhood. This was her way of showing how much she loved them. Whether you called her: “Keek, “Tender”, “Tin-Tin”, or “Tenderoni” Mary’s heart was full, because she loved everybody.    She  loved  her  one  and  only son,  Everette  “Snook”  unconditionally.  Tin-Tin loved caring for Christopher and Carson. She always told funny stories about the fun they had and referred to them as her boys. She never met a stranger and her doors were always open. When you were leaving, she would always quote  a verse from her favorite song, “I want to leave you in the hands of the Lord”.

Mary was very talented and enjoyed celebrating the holidays.  Every Easter, she would make a  special egg tree in the yard for the neighborhood kids.  She was a die-hard “Tarheel” and “Redskin” fan.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents,  three brothers,   Willis “Pap” Penny, Raymond Penny and Marvin Penny; two sisters, Cordie Lee Penny and Judith Ann Penny.

Surviving to cherish precious memories are one son, Everette Penny (Jennifer) of the home; five sisters, Clara Penny, Bessie Penny  Perry, Lola Marie Penny, Regina “Deannie” Penny Seymour, and Barbara Annette Penny all of Pittsboro, N.C.; two brothers,  Melvin Penny and Michael “Chubby” Penny (Michelle) both of Chapel Hill; one aunt, Mrs. Allie Perry Baker of Pittsboro, NC; a godson, Benjamin Perry; the twins, Christopher and Carson Roundtree; a favorite cousin,  Leon Pendergraft; a very special nephew, Jimmy “Moe”  Penny and a host of other relatives and friends.
