The Obituary

Mr. Ernest (Pete) Jackson was born to the late Molly Jackson Dyson and the late Allen Wilder on November 13, 1926, in Clarendon County, South Carolina.

Mr. Jackson was united in holy matrimony to the late Miss Alice Bogier on November 28, 1946. To this union five children was born.

Preceded him in death, wife of 65 years, Mother Alice Boiger Jackson, a son, Private William Jackson, a daughter, Ms. Everline Jackson, one grandson, Dezond Williams and one great granddaughter, Porshia R. Williams. Also, seven sisters, Mary Forde, Rachael Zellars, Lila Mae Fordham, Mary Sue Mitchell, Rose Marie Young, Bertha Wilder, Lillie Billie; five brothers, J. Jackson, Melvin Jackson, J.T. Wilder, Eddie L. Wilder, and James Wilder.

Mr. Jackson was employed at Thomas Furniture Plant “D” for 14 years and seven years at Lexington Chair. In 1992, Mr. Jackson retired from PPG Industries.

Mr. Jackson’s hobbies were fishing and singing. He began singings at the age of 14 years old with the Sunrise Jubilee, Pinewood, SC. He sang on the church choir at Mt. Hope F.B.H. Church, Pinewood, SC and he sang with the Golden Hearts of Lexington, NC. In 1996, the name was changed to Pete Jackson and the Mighty Golden Hearts. Pete Jackson and the Mighty Golden Hearts have been singing for 64 years. A few of this favorite songs were: “Show Me the Way”, “My Lord Getting us Ready for that Great Days”, and “Somebody left this Morning on that Morning Train”.

Mr. Jackson was a very loving and caring father. He loved people and if he could do you a favor, he would go beyond the call of duty. He was highly respected by the Thomasville Community and everyone who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memories Mrs. Mattie J. Williams, Ernest Jackson, Jr., and Mrs. Mary Gilkes all of High Point, NC; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Fordham, Mrs. Peartha Postell of Thomasville, NC, Mrs. Maggie (Tommy) Standford of Tucker, Georgia, one brother Mr. Mose (Sarah) Wilder of High Point, NC, sister-in-law Mrs. Ida Mae Jackson of Thomasville, NC and one god daughter, Evangelist Lumia Cobbs, two godsons, Bishop D. T. Johnson and Deacon Christopher Richbourg, Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
