Her Journey
On June 23, 1931, Cora Ellen Dunbar was born to the late Stacy Jessie Dunbar and Christine Small Dunbar in Davidson County, North Carolina. She was blessed to have been reared by the late Lewis and Mary Small. She attended the public schools of Davidson County. Her life journey came to a quiet and peaceful close on May 14, 2019.
Cora was a member of St. John A. M. E Zion church. Her service ministries was a Class Leader, an Usher and a member of the Women Homes and Overseas Missionary Ministers. In 1950, she married Alonzo B. McCauley and to this union one son, Kenneth McCauley was born.
“Cora Ella” as she was fondly known by family and friends, was a very energetic person who loved fishing and working in her flower garden. Shopping was very easy for Cora, she would also find a great deals on her many trips to Walmart. After retirement from Belk’s as a sale clerk, her favorite pastime was sitting on her front porch and she loved it when family and friends would stop by for friendly conversation. She will be missed by all.
In addition to both her parents, Cora Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Alzona McCauley, her son, Kenneth McCauley and one brother, Tony Small.
Survivors are her two grandsons: Gernaro McCauley, Asher McCauley; two special nephews, Kavir Small and Lewis Bakari Small; a special niece, Nettle Wall, two special cousins, Mary Coleman and Dorothy Burton, her dog, “Buddy”, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
