Obituary
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
On Friday, June 7, 2019, Lessie Gray Liles Leak quietly transitioned from Labor to Reward at her home in Thomasville, North Carolina.
She was born on July 4, 1933 to the late Charlie W. and Estella Caraway Liles in Wadesboro, North Carolina. Lessie received her formal education in the public schools of Anson County, North Carolina. She was a retired employee of Thomasville Furniture Industries.
Lessie was married to the late Lee Matthew Leak. To their union six wonderful children were born. As she grew in her faith and her love for God, she joined Brown New Calvary Baptist Church where she served FAITHFULLY on numerous auxiliaries until her health declined.
As a dedicated church member, she was an avid singer. She was a member of the infamous Echoes of Eden, Gospel Choir, and Spiritual Choir. There was always a request that Mrs. Lessie Leak sing one of her songs..."Thank You Jesus", "Work on Me Lord", or any song of her choice.... and whatever she sang the Power of the Lord would definitely show up.
Lessie enjoyed cooking. She spent lots of hours in the kitchen and many were blessed from her delicious meals served at her home, or carried away to the church, hospitals and nursing homes.
It was her custom to care for and be the Advocate for those who needed her help. She walked the corridors of Pine Ridge Nursing Home, Thomasville Medical Center, and many other facilities caring for others and entrusting that the care that was need was being provided.
Lessie was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Mathews, three sons, Johnny, Fulton and Michael, as well as two sister, Gracie Fant and Charlie B. Scott.
She leaves to cherish her fond and precious memories two daughters, Mavis Elaine Skeen of Thomasville, NC and Vanessa Leak of Charlottle, NC. One son, Francis Allen Leak of Thomasville, NC; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha L. Kirby and Rosa E. Richardson both of Charlotte, NC; one sister-in-law, Sarah Frances Leak of Thomasville, NC; her amazing care giver, Mary Nesbitt and a host of nieces, nephews, adopted children and other relatives and friends.
