His Legacy
On Sunday, June 16, 2019, Steve Burnette Price Sr., while at his home at 504 Chesapeake Place in Fayetteville NC, traded this earthy life for his new place in glory, to be alongside our heavenly Father. He was 63 years young. Steve was kindly and affectionately known to his family and friends as “Daddy P”.
Life’s journey for “Daddy P” began on Friday, August 19, 1955 in Thomasville, NC. He was born to the late Elizabeth Price Payne and Kelly Ray Hoover. Steve was preceded in death by both his parents and his step-father, James Edward Payne. Steve resided in Thomasville, NC most of his life, where he attended Thomasville City Schools. Steve married the love of his life Patricia Ann Taylor Price on October 28, 1982.
Steve graduated from Thomasville Senior High in 1973. After graduating, Steve served as the Ambassador of the Class of 1973 for 45 years. He led the Class of 1973 in giving back to the community with many service events and projects. Those events included scholarship fundraisings, Thanksgiving baskets for families through Davidson County, Mother’s Day events, and fundraising for Thomasville’s Everybody’s Day. No one in the Class of 1973 went with a need unmet, if brought to Steve’s attention. He was the first person there to lend a helping hand. He’d even rally the rest of the class to aid anyone in need. Under Steve’s guidance, the Class of 1973 has become a hallmark of the Thomasville community. This is largely due to the love, caring, and dedication that Steve had for his community and classmates. In 2017, Steve wanted to step down from his role as Ambassador, however; his dear friend Robert Gilmore reminded him that he was the one God chose to represent the Class of 1973. Steve’s joy and happiness brought a sparkle to anyone that spent more than two minutes with him. For this, he will never be forgotten.
Staff Sergeant Price entered the U.S. Army on October 29, 1981. His combined military career spanned 20 years. He faithfully served his country during the First Gulf War and two tours in Germany. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Seattle, WA and his last duty station at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, NC. During his Military career, Steve received the following awards – Army Commendation Medal, Army Achieve Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Oversees Service Ribbon, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Badge. His last assignment was Fort Bragg in Fayetteville NC, in the 46th TRANS CO. Staff Sergeant Price retired with full military honors. Upon his retirement, he and his family made Fayetteville, NC their home.
After his 20-year military career, Steve worked for another twenty years for Pepsi in Fayetteville, NC. He brought that same sparkle to Pepsi that he brought to the Thomasville community. During his tenure at Pepsi, he made many lifetime friends who will miss him greatly. He also continued his community service through facilitating drink donations from Pepsi to many community events in Thomasville and beyond.
Steve’s greatest love was his family. He never missed a graduation, wedding, or celebration of any type. Steve was always the life of any gathering, especially at his family’s September Cookouts. There was absolutely nothing that Steve would not do for his family, especially for his mother and Gwen. He had special names for some of his siblings like, “Baby Doll”, “Sweet Heart” and “Hero”. His family loved him just as much as he loved them. He was a spectacular son, brother, husband, father, uncle, nephew and grandfather.
In addition to his military and Pepsi careers, and after his greatest love – his family, Steve loved the Carolina Panthers. He would rather tailgate than go into the stadium so that he could be a part of the energy outside, cheering his team on. Everyone knew they better not all during a Panther game because he would not answer!
To cherish his fond memories, Steve leaves his loving wife, Patricia Ann Price of the home; three children Tamika Taylor-Price of Thomasville, NC, Steve Burnette Price, Jr. (Danielle) of San Antonio, TX, and Steve Burnette Price, III of Fayetteville, NC; four grandchildren, Ja’Quez Taylor, Ja’Hare Taylor-Thomas both of Thomasville, NC, Faith Dianne Price of San Antonio, TX, and Serayah Elizabeth Price of Fayetteville, NC; three sisters, Lois Anderson (Eric), Doris Pitts (Phinis) both of Washington, DC, and Gwendola Price of Thomasville, NC; two brothers, Timothy Price, Sr. (May) of Lexington, NC and Craig Price (Terry) of Greensboro, NC; special nephew, Jeffrey Price (Felisha) of Portsmouth, VA and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
