On, April 4, 1941 Bernell Mickens, Sr. was welcomed into the world by his loving parents, the late Charlie and Pauline Stukes Mickens in Pendleton, South Carolina. On August 20, 2019, Minister Bernell Mickens, Sr., transitioned this earthly life for his heavenly home, as the Master called his name.
Steadfast in his faith Minister Mickens joined Zion Tabernacle F. B. H. Church in 1976, under the pastorate of the late Elder H. H. Medlock. He served under the following pastors Reverend James Wood, Elder Jessie O. Baldwin, Elder Marshall McCoy and Pastor Odessa W. McCoy. He was a member of the Finance Board, Male Chorus, Spiritual Choir and the Usher Board.
Continuing to share his love for God, Minister Mickens would visit the sick in the hospitals, nursing home, and private homes spreading the Word of God. He also loved to sing songs of Zion.
Family was very important to him. Minister Mickens will be remembered for his love of wrestling, raising rabbits, and his manicured lawn. He retired from Custom Finish with over 35 exceptional years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Cynthia Mickens.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Dorothy Mickens of the home, five sons, Bernell Mickens, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, Charles (Karen) Mickens and Roy Lee Lindsay of Lexington, NC, Clayton (Angela) Love, and Keith Love of Thomasville, NC, five daughters Antionetta Love of Winston Salem, NC, Lindy (Corey) Weldon, Betty Leak, Victoria Pierce and Shanice Mickens all of Thomasville, NC, 25 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two brothers, Apostle Willie (Pasty) Boiger of Thomasville and Pastor Eddie (Rosa) Boiger of Spartanburg, SC, two sisters, Annie Phillips and Thelma Boyd both of Thomasville, NC, five sisters –in-law, a special sister-in-law, Annie Stukes, and two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.
