Obituary

Floyd Lee Goree was born on April 2, 1939 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Sallie Goree. He grew up in Newberry, South Carolina and received his formal education from the Clarendon County school system. As an adult in 1957, he relocated to Thomasville, North Carolina.

In 1960, Floyd married the love of his life, Sylvia Ann Mock Goree. To this union three children were born: Sheryl, Dennis and Desiree. He was an excellent husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend. Family was very important to him and he loved providing for his family. As a provider, he worked and retired from Henry Dunn Furniture Corporation, as a detail tailor.

Deeply planted in his faith Floyd took great pride in his spiritual journey. He joined St. John A.M.E. Zion Church. He was an active member until his health declined. He sang with Hartones and he loved attending the Men’s Fellowship breakfast.

All will remember Floyd unique style. He was a sharp dresser sealed with his signature of hats. He enjoyed visiting friends and spending time with others. During his leisure, he would also watching TV, the Have and the Have Nots and his favorite teams, the Carolina Panthers and the Duke Devils. All will miss his sense of humor.

On December 4, 2019, Floyd joined his mother, Sallie Goree and wife, Sylvia Ann Goree in heaven.

Leaving to cherish his fond memories includes his children, Dennis (Tangee) Goree, Sr. of High Point, NC; Sheryl Goree of Hagerstown, MD; and Desiree “Rita” of Thomasville, NC; his grandchildren, Davon, Dennis Jr., Dakaiva, Carmella and Caleb, six great- grandchildren and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
