The Obituary
Life has purpose to the pursuit of what are wills and desires. Your determination will get you to your destination. How you believe is how you achieve. So be the pathway to present Andrena Ruth Owens, born on May 3, 1935 in Hemingway, South Carolina. Daughter of the late Deacon Alfred “Furney” Brown and Deaconess Daisy Elizabeth Brown.
The family migrated to Thomasville, North Carolina in 1941. She attended Church Street School and was a member of the school choir (Glee Club) and a cheerleader. In 1951 she moved to New York where she completed her high school education at Morris High School.
Mrs. Owens started a productive and sound career with AT&T for 25 years.
Upon her retirement she moved back to Thomasville, North Carolina in 1995 where she faithfully attended Emmanuel Baptist Church and actively supported her son’s (Apostle Gerald Gordon) ministry. Mrs. Owens was a God first, God fearing and God loving woman of God with a heart for all to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
She had a love for cooking, singing, praying and bringing smiles to those she came in contact with by her character and warm personality. Her love for poetry was evident by her collection of poems of which several were published. Two of which can be found in the program.
She leaved a legacy and memory to her children: Beverly “Faye” (Gregory) Lewis of Thomasville, NC; Gerald (Renee) Gordon of Archdale, NC; Kevin (Vivian) Gordon of Colorado Springs, CO; Jeffrey (Vieyvette) Gordon of Altadena, CA; Karen Owens of Greensboro, NC and Eric (Shavana) Owens of Greensboro, NC. Two brothers, Dr. Calvin E. (Mary Alice) Browne of Teaneck, NJ; Clinton A. (Margaret) Brown of Houston, TX and a sister Ruthena B. Marley of Thomasville, NC.
She is additionally survived by 24 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren, three nieces, Michele (Matthew) Rumph, Millette Cockrane of Thomasville and Ayanna (Cardell) Redd of Cypress, TX; two nephews, Tracey (Joanne) Browne of Teaneck, NJ and Clinton Browne, II of Bronx, NY, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. She is also survived by a faithful and loyal friend for over sixty years, Mrs. Juanita (Dee) Brown of Greensboro, NC.
Affectionally acknowledge as “Mother Owens” Mothered Family, friends and community will be greatly missed, always remembered and never forgotten.
