Obituary

Dolford Gilbert, Jr. began his earthly journey on April 23, 1940, to the late Dolford Gilbert, Sr. and the late Laney Wingate Gilbert in Darlington, South Carolina. He entered into the gates of heaven on February 20, 2021.

Dolford attended the school system of Darlington, South Carolina prior to moving to Thomasville, North Carolina. Shorty afterward he gained employment with Southern Veneer and Thomasville Furniture Industry as a Broil Room Fireman.

Dolford attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He was an awesome man. One would testify to know him was to love him. He enjoyed helping people. His favorite pastime was watching “Walker Texas Ranger”, listening to quartet music, fishing, hunting or cooking his game. When time permitted he also enjoyed traveling.

Heaven awaits Dolfod’s arrival to greet him are his parents; his wife, Core Lee Gilbert; three sisters, Maria G. Jackson, Mary G. Scott, and Mable English.

Leaving to cherish his precious memories are his five daughters; Felicia J. Gilbert, Diana G. Robinson, Angela Macklin, Coporal Major Dearea Gilbert Mitchell, and Carla Gilbert; two sons, Derrek Gilbert and Dolford (Danny) Gilbert; 18 grandchildren and a substantial amount of great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a sister, Martha Lee Thomas of Thomasville, NC; a brother, Monk Gilbert; his extended family: Sarah Trowell and Jakie Jackson both of Thomasville, NC; a special companion, for over 50 years, Ida Mae Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins , other relatives and friends.
