Obituary

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Dorothy Lee Simon Chaney Dean transitioned from this earthly life to her life eternal in heaven. Born to the late Clayton Simon and Cleo Huntley Simon on February 26, 1942 in Wadesboro, North Carolina; Dorothy was one of nine children.


Dorothy received her formal education from the Anson County School system, where she proudly graduated with the West Deep Creek High School Class of 1961.


Knowing God was her provider, Dorothy was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church. Where she served on several boards and auxiliaries: Senior Usher Board, Yielding Empowering Sisters (YES), Kitchen Committee and the Senior Choir. Providing a solid foundation for her family, Dorothy worked and retired from Masonite Inc. as a furniture inspector with over thirty years of service.


Friends and family will fondly remember Dorothy for her loving spirit, giving personality and love for shopping and watching her favorite television shows: Smash Down, The Price is Right, Let’s Make A Deal in addition to the Westerns and Soap Operas.

Dorothy was proceeded in death by her parents, her daughter, Carmela Taylor, granddaughter, India Gannaway, sister Lucille T. Ross, brothers, Bobby Simon and Henry Lee Simon and son-in-law, Gary Gannaway.


She leaves a legacy of love to her husband, Fisher Dean, Jr. of Oxon Hill, MD, a daughter, Denise Gannaway of the home, granddaughter, Miracle Gannaway of the home and grandson, Dewaine Taylor, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, son-in-law, Dewaine Taylor, Sr. of Winston Salem, NC, siblings, Queen (Ted) Strong of Silver Spring, MD, Gail (Jerry) Ingram of Forth Washington, MD, Vernetta Simon and Claydes (Claude) Leonard both of Wadesboro, NC, John (Corinna) Simon of Midway, NC, bonus children, Michael Dean, Natasha Dean both of Lexington Park, MD, Timothy Dean and Nanette A. Dean both of Lanham, MD, Delbert Dean and Nicole Dean both of Bowie, MD, sister-n-law, Martha Simon, Anthony Kinard – son not by blood; but definitely by love along with grandchildren by love: Precious Harris, Kelcei Burke, Shawndarin Sanders, Triston Harris and Serenity Sanders, special friends, Othelia Moss and Marcelle Wilson and a host of other nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
