Obituary


The earthly life of Jesse Taylor, Sr. came to a peaceful closure on June 8, 2021, while a patient at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Jesse was born on November 27, 1937, in Darlington, South Carolina, he was the son on the late Jesse Taylor and the late Corine Taylor Wingate. The was also blessed to be reared by his stepfather the late Joseph “Mutt” Wingate.

Jesse attended the school system of Darlington County, South Carolina; he graduated from Mayo High School. Shorty after high school his family relocated to Thomasville, North Carolina. He was married to the former Helen Williamson Taylor. Determined to provide security for his family Jesse became a truck driver. He worked and retired from Glossom Motor Line with over 35 years of service.


Jesse was affectionately known as “June”. Family and friends will remember Jesse as an outgoing and friendly person. He loved people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the simple things in life, family and friends. His hobbies were watching Westerns, reading comic books, walking and cooking. His famous ox tails and turkey necks will never be forgotten.


Jesse was proceeded in death by his parents, stepfather, wife, Helen W. Taylor, a sister, Betty Cannon, two brothers, Joe Cephus Wingate and Randolph Taylor and a son-in-law, Elvin Macklin.


Jesse leaves to cherish his memories to his children, Angela Macklin, Claudette (Freddie) Williams, Jesse Taylor, Jr., Jacqueline Taylor, and Arniece (Lamar) Garner ; thirteen grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Emmanuel Taylor and Robert Brown, two sisters, Rena (David) Washington and Bannie Taylor, two brothers-in-law, Joe Michael Cannon and La Teek, three special care takers, Corey Cannon, Roger Cannon and Debra Crosby, two special friends, Robert “Big Six” Greene and Aaron “Coon” Jones and a host of of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
