Obituary
Sherman Rodgers, Sr. was born June 3, 1937 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Bob Johnson and the late Sally Rodgers Epps. He quietly transitioned to enteral life on July 23, 2021.
While receiving his education from the Newberry County school systems Sherman met the love of his life, Willie Mae Davis. The love that Sherman and Willie Mae shared led them to join together in marriage and from this union six beautiful children were born.
After graduating from high school Sherman moved to Thomasville, North Carolina and worked for Thomasville Furniture Industries for over 20 years. He relocated to Harlem, New York and worked as a peace worker for an additional 20 years. Knowing home in the South was best for him, he retired and returned back to Thomasville, North Carolina.
Sherman lived a quite and pleasant life. The simple things made him happy, family and friends. He was a great provider for his family and a pleasant man to his friends. He enjoyed swimming, cycling, playing cards, collecting nic-naks and listening to music. As time allowed you would find him adoring antique cars at car shows.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings: Rosie Lee Willis, Azie Glenn, Jimmy Rodgers, Christopher Rodgers, L.D. Rodgers and Rufus Rodgers.
Leaving to cherish his memories is his wife of the home. Willie Mae Rodges; eight children: Wanda (Adonis) Blackwell of Cincinnati, OH, Eric (Suzanne) Rodgers of Narragansett, RI, Sherman Rodgers, Jr. (special friend, Michelle Harris), Stanley Rodgers, Gregory Rodgers, Rodney Rodgers and Shane (Quintsey) Rodgers all of Thomasville, NC, Taleda Mathis of Newberry, SC; thirteen grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
