Obituary

Thomas Edward Siler, (affectionately called Tom), was the 4th child of 7 born to Clyde & Mary Rose Siler on December 3, 1927 in Thomasville, NC. He made his earthly transition to his heavenly home on March 29, 2023 at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Trauma Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Tom attended and graduated from Church St School in 1949. His parents made sure he received spiritual education and training which stayed with him for his entire life. Tom was a proud member of St. John Methodist Episcopal Church, before it merged with Hoover Chapel, which later became Central United Methodist Church.

Following High School and doing odd jobs, he was drafted by the United States Army, where he proudly served until he received an Honorable Discharge in 1956. He returned home to North Carolina and after a while, Tom began his career as an Insurance Agent with Winston Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1964 in the Greensboro District, becoming the district’s #1 Agent. In 1985 Winston Mutual merged with Golden State Mutual Insurance Company and Tom remained a top Agent until his retirement in 1990.

Tom thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and gardening. In addition, he loved sports, especially football. Most of all, he loved interacting with and being around his family! In recent years, he was unable to enjoy most of his activities he was used to due to his limitations as a result of declining health.

He was married to Willie Frances Lane Siler, who preceded Tom in death. Along with his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by: 1 Stepdaughter- Joretta Harris; 3 Brothers—Richard Siler, Joseph Siler and William Cathey; 2 Sisters - Daisy Mae Siler and Rosa Lee Siler Dawkins.

Left to carry out his legacy and cherish his memory are: 2 Sisters - Mary Elizabeth Pair (Doll) of Greensfarm, CT and Edith Siler Southerland of Thomasville, NC; 3 Grandchildren - Virginia Horton, (Daryl), Adell Harris and Jamel Harris; 6 Nieces – Ann Pair, Priscilla Dula, Josephine Council, Shelia Siler, Soraya Pickett and Jennifer Southerland; 8 Nephews – Melvin Siler, Samuel Pair Jr, (Loretta), Elbert Bernard Pair, Gary Pair, (Marie), Frankie Siler, Joseph Siler, Jr, Jerry Siler and Jeff Cathey, along with a host of Great Nieces and Nephews. Tom was loved by church members, former customers, friends and neighbors.
