Obituary

Life’s journey for Eloise Garrett Tate, daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Garrett began on September 27, 1938 in Gaffney, South Carolina. On November 24, 2021, God whispered into her ear, “I will provide you with eternal life, come to me.”

Eloise received her formal education within the Cherokee county school system. She met and married John (Joe) D. Tate of Thomasville, NC. From this union they were blessed with five wonderful children, Gay Sandra, Charles, Teresa, Janice Yvette, and Jesse.

Planted in her faith Eloise was a life long member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church; where she served as a Deaconess. Wised beyond her years, Eloise was call the neighborhood mom. She loved sharing her wisdom and giving advice to all who asked. She enjoyed sewing, which rewarded her a career as a seamstress. She was employed by Circle Manufacture for 17 years, Adtees Manufacture and Swain Metal Company to provide for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Tate, one daughter, Gay Sandra Tate, five sisters, Lela Lacewell. Vinie Ann Clark, Thelma Dudly. Flora M. Rice and Virginia, four brothers, John H. Garrett, Felton C. Garrett, Samuel Garrett and Thomas Garrett.

Left to cherish many fond memories are her four children, Charles Tate and Teresa Tate Pender both of Charlotte, NC, Janice Yvette Tate of the home and Jesse Thomas (Jessie) Tate of Thomasville, NC; seven grandchildren: Jevon (Marlene) Tate, Jazmond (Veda) Tate, Michael Austin Byrd, Leah Tate, Jania Tate, India Hannah, DeAnna Hannah; nine great-grandchildren. Her sister whom she loved dearly, Linda L. Johnson , three sisters-in-law, Shelia (Warren) Ratchford, Lizzie Ruth Huskey, Bernell Tate, two brothers-in-law, Victor Tate and Charles (Mary) Tate, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” –
