The Obituary



Eugene Smith, Jr. , was born on August 5, 1957 to Eugene Smith, Sr. and Dorothy Tribble Smith in Newberry, SC and departed to his heavenly home on Friday, September 11, 2020.


Eugene, also known as Gene, attended most of his school years in the Georgia School system, having attended Carver Elementary School and Hardaway High School in Columbus, GA prior to moving to Thomasville, NC where he graduated from Thomasville High School in 1975. Upon graduation he attended Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix, AL where he studied Art and Psychology. In 1977, Gene joined the U.S. Army and served 10 years, working as an Office Assistant Clerk.


Eugene was employed as an Officer for Allied Universal Security Services. He was a former guard for Guard One Security Solutions of America. Gene also worked for several years as a butcher for Winn Dixie and Sam’s Club.


He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were: the Minnesota Vikings, LA Lakers, UNC Tarheels, Georgia Bulldogs and the Thomasville Bulldogs. He will be remembered by his pleasant smile, his mild manner, tireless work ethics and dedication to his mother


Eugene was a member of Union Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC. He previously served as an usher and was a previously member of the male chorus.


He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Smith, Sr. and an uncle, A. C. Tribble.


He leaves to cherish his memories to his dear and precious mother, Dorothy Smith; one brother, Theo Smith (Philadelphia, PA) and one sister, Daphne Smith (Columbus, GA), along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
